Premier League table after five matchdays: City three points clear, Spurs bottom

Manchester City lead the Premier League with 15 points from five games, three ahead of Arsenal. Tottenham, Fulham and Coventry are in the bottom three.

Manchester City go into the Premier League's return this weekend three points clear at the top, the only side with five wins from five matches. Arsenal are second on 12 points after their first defeat, Brighton are third on 10, and Tottenham Hotspur are bottom with two points. The table has not moved since Matchday 5 on 19-20 September, because the league stopped for an international break that ended on Tuesday night.

Who is leading the Premier League?

Enzo Maresca's City have 15 points, 13 goals scored and five conceded. Their latest win, 5-3 against Sunderland, included a first half in which City went ahead on three separate occasions, something the league's weekend round-up described as a first for the club in the competition.

Arsenal lost their perfect record on 19 September when Brighton beat them 3-0 at the Amex, with goals from Pascal Groß, Charalampos Kostoulas and Chema Andrés. Brighton have the best goal difference in the division at +11 and the most goals scored, 16.

3 Brighton 5 3 1 1 +11 10

6 Liverpool 5 2 3 0 +3 9
7 Everton 5 2 3 0 +3 9
8 Hull City 5 2 2 1 +2 8

Who is unbeaten in the chasing pack?

Behind the top three, four clubs share nine points and none of them has lost yet: Brentford, Leeds United, Liverpool and Everton, separated only by goal difference. Leeds extended their unbeaten start with a goalless draw against Crystal Palace, and Liverpool won 1-0 at Bournemouth thanks to Alexander Isak. Hull City are eighth on eight points.

Who is in trouble at the bottom?

Tottenham are last on two points after a 3-2 home defeat by Aston Villa, and they have scored only twice in five matches. Fulham, also on two points, are 19th after a 1-1 draw with Manchester United in which Matheus Cunha equalised in the 89th minute. Coventry City occupy the last relegation place on three points, level with Bournemouth, who have yet to win but sit above them on goal difference.

18 Coventry City 5 1 0 4 -9 3
19 Fulham 5 0 2 3 -3 2
20 Tottenham 5 0 2 3 -6 2

Manchester United are 12th with five points. The Premier League noted that this is the club's joint-lowest total after five games of a Premier League season, matching 2014/15.

What could change on Matchday 6?

The big game is on Sunday, when Liverpool host City at Anfield (4.30pm BST). Arsenal open the weekend at home to Leeds on Saturday lunchtime, and Manchester United face Tottenham at Old Trafford at 5.30pm BST on Saturday, a meeting between two sides in the bottom half. Coventry play Newcastle United on Monday night to close the round.

A win for City at Anfield would keep them at least three points clear whatever Arsenal do. If Arsenal beat Leeds and City lose, the gap at the top would be cut to zero, with goal difference deciding the leaders.
