The Scottish Premiership's summer transfer window closed at 5pm on Thursday 3 September, two days after England's, and the two Glasgow clubs finished it in very different ways. Celtic made six signings in little over 24 hours to beat UEFA's registration deadline, while Rangers waited until the final day to complete a move for Portland Timbers striker Kevin Kelsy.
Who did Celtic sign at the end of the window?
Celtic's priority was to register new players for the Europa League before UEFA's 11pm deadline on Wednesday 2 September. They had dropped into that competition after losing a four-goal lead against LASK and going out of Champions League qualifying in August. According to ESPN, Martin O'Neill's side signed two players permanently just before that cut-off: Joel van den Berg, a Dutch midfielder, from PSV Eindhoven, and Jordan Lotomba, a Swiss right-back, from Feyenoord.
They had already added four players on loan: goalkeeper Sam Johnstone from Wolves, midfielder Oliver Sorensen from Parma and two 18-year-olds from Chelsea, Shim Mheuka and Landon Emenalo. A move for Torino midfielder Gvidas Gineitis did not happen in time for him to join the European squad.
Two players went the other way on English deadline night. BBC Sport's list of completed deals shows Reo Hatate joining Burnley and Johnny Kenny moving to Preston North End, both for undisclosed fees.
Did Rangers sign Kevin Kelsy?
Yes. Derek McInnes said on the eve of the deadline that Rangers were very close to a deal for the 22-year-old Venezuelan forward, and BBC Sport's list confirms Kelsy's move from Portland for an undisclosed fee. Rangers also brought in Algeria winger Badredine Bouanani on loan from Stuttgart, one of the targets ESPN had linked with the club that week.
Rangers turned down a loan bid from Besiktas for midfielder Nico Raskin, but allowed Thelo Aasgaard to join Anderlecht on loan, with the Belgian club paying a fee and holding an option to buy the Norway international. Lyall Cameron (Dundee United) and Connor Barron (Middlesbrough) also left on loan.

What did the rest of the league do?
Hearts, who pushed Celtic all the way to the final day of last season, signed two 18-year-olds in 24 hours: Leart Kabashi, a Switzerland under-19 midfielder, who arrived from Grasshoppers on a four-year deal and Faroese winger Aron Benjaminsen from Vikingur. Hibernian took Alex Williams on loan from West Bromwich Albion, Motherwell signed Dylan Levitt from Leyton Orient and Falkirk added Owen Eames on loan from Derby County.
What are the latest rumours in Scotland?
The window is closed, so the current talk is about January. In the gossip column BBC Sport published on Wednesday, The Herald reports that former England striker Emile Heskey believes a loan at Celtic or Rangers could fast-track the development of Arsenal teenager Max Dowman. It is an opinion, not a reported negotiation, and neither club has commented.
On the pitch, the first meeting of the new signings went Rangers' way: they beat Celtic in the season's first Old Firm derby on 20 September, with Ryan Naderi the match-winner.
